The Grafton Centre

The Grafton Centre is a shopping complex based in Cambridge – one of England’s busiest tourist destinations – which accommodates thousands of people on a daily basis; welcoming over 13 million visitors every year.

The challenge

The centre required a discreet integrated security system – delivered as part of an £8 million redevelopment project. – combining CCTV, access control, communications and an advanced detection system to alert security staff of suspicious or abnormal activity, all monitored from a new high tech control centre.

Camrascan Security was the chosen supplier for two reasons: our vast previous experience in modern integrated security systems; and our ability to provided 24/7 ongoing support.

St John's Museum

The Museum of the Order of St John has been awarded a grant of £1.53 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund to improve visitor experience, partly through allowing visitors to enter through a restored St John’s Gate, revealing some original architectural features of the building and access to more artifacts.

The challenge

The refurbishment includes the provision of a non intrusive state-of-the-art security system to assist in protecting some of the nation’s treasures.

Camrascan Security was the chosen supplier for two reasons: our vast experience working within listed buildings; and our access to a range of security manufacturers meant we could offer the widest choice of appropriate best fit equipment.

The solution

Working closely with specialist listed building architects and English Heritage, our brief was to install a range of modern security solutions, including fitting motorised locks to 15th century doors as well as fitting alarm and motion detectors throughout the museum. All this had to be done with minimum disruption to the structure of the building.

We designed, installed and commissioned a fully integrated access control, CCTV and intruder detection system, featuring more than 50 cameras. The system also utilises the very latest in high quality digital recording, high technology tamper detection and video motion analysis for exhibit protection.

The result

All critical areas of the museum are now fully protected using unobtrusive cameras and sensors, with minimum intrusion to the building, galleries and display areas. All doors within the museum are now secure using swipe card access control.

St John’s Museum Curator Pamela Willis said: “Camrascan have interpreted our requirements for improving security within the museum to our to our complete satisfaction. We have been most impressed with coordination between Camrascan and all other trades working in redeveloping the museums display areas.

“Camrascan have also provided us with the very best value for money, and we look forward to enjoying the peace of mind our new security system provides”.

N&P Building Society

The Norwich and Peterborough (N&P) Building Society is the ninth largest building society in the UK. With a head office in Peterborough the financial services provider has 55 UK branches, mainly located in the eastern counties, and an offshore branch in Gibraltar.

The challenge

To provide a total digital CCTV solution for all the society’s branches, including Gibraltar, including ongoing user support in the form of reactive maintenance, staff training.

Camrascan Security was the chosen as the supplier for two reasons: our previous experience with banking sector CCTV; and our position as a Panasonic Premier Systems Integrator.

The solution

Camrascan Security designed, installed and commissioned high performance Panasonic CCTV systems at each branch, including sending our installation team out to the offshore branch in Gibraltar to ensure installation consistency.

In conjunction with the society’s loss prevention team, we provided the highest quality DVD archived backup system and the ability to produce high resolution photographs of branch incidents where necessary.

The result

Camrascan Security has provided N&P Building Society with a total branch security system with full ongoing support to fully accommodate the society’s security requirements.

N&P Building Society’s Head of Facilities Kevin Orme said: “The Society has been very pleased with the high level of service and professionalism Camrascan has provided over the years, initially with the introduction of CCTV within our branches and now with the transition over to digital recording.

“Their personal approach has been most helpful – in particular ensuring that our systems complied with the Data Protection Act and providing guidance in the selection of CCTV equipment.”

Orton Hall Hotel

Set in 20 acres of parkland in the conservation village of Orton Longueville, Orton Hall Hotel is only 2.5 miles from Peterborough centre. Previously the estate of the Marquesses of Huntly, the 17th Century house has been fully renovated to provide a spacious, comfortable hotel.

Orton Hall Hotel has 72 large en-suite bedrooms, nine spacious conference rooms and a range of leisure facilities. The hotel is part of the Abacus hotel group, which has two other hotels in East Anglia.

The challenge

The hotel wanted to ensure that its guests feel secure and that their possessions are safe through an easy to operate and low maintenance CCTV solution. Recorded images from their previous system were too low quality for their requirements, so the new system needed to provide superior recorded image quality.

Camrascan Security was the chosen supplier for two reasons: our IP CCTV technology expertise; and our security system integration skills and experience.

The solution

We designed, installed and commissioned a Panasonic iPro IP surveillance system featuring more than 20 cameras and utilising a dedicated network video recorder for image storage. The system included 24-hour coverage of entrances/exits to allow the hotel to provide safe 24-hour access for guests and visitors.

The result

All critical areas of the hotel are effectively monitored with multiple viewing stations throughout the complex allowing management, security and reception staff to access CCTV imagery. The system has built-in remote access ability should hotel management wish to view CCTV cameras off site.

Orton Hall Hotel Manager Martin Goodliffe said: “We are very pleased with the performance and quality of the networked CCTV security system Camrascan have provided. The installation went very smoothly with virtually no disruption to the hotels daily activities or to our guests.

“Camrascan also provided us with the very best value for money, and we are continuing to achieve very good results from the live and recorded images whenever needed.”
